The main part of the Olympics are almost over, and I’ve just started to show a bit of interest in them.  Nothing, I don’t think, would make me a true sports fan. But Olympic hockey is pretty darn good hockey.  So now that it’s playoffs time, I’m interested in watching the games.

I feel oddly unCanadian compared to my peers. Or at least, how my peers act on Facebook.  In these last couple of games, I’ve been cheering for Canada, sure…but I actually cheer for the SCORE of the game more.  Nothing better than a fun, close game – even better if the outcome is for the team I was cheering for!!

But I feel odd saying “we won a gold!” or “I’m so proud to be Canadian!” when a Canadian athlete rocks it out in their sport.  I don’t think I respect them any more than the athletes who won gold in other events, you know what I mean?  It think it’s why I’m such an annoying game player for some people.  I just don’t often care who wins.  The fun is somewhere within the gameplay experience for me.

So tomorrow, Canada’s in the hockey finals.  That’s fun, because I’m cheering for Canada. But if Canada starts stomping on the US team, and there’s a major point advantage, I’ll be secretly cheering for the US team for a while.  Just until they bring the score back to something fun.

You know what I mean?
